Don’t miss the live animal exhibits for an up close look at snakes and even a venomous Gila monster lizard. There are 7 dining and drink options on the property including a literal library of scotch complete with a bookshelf ladder! Adults can relax at the full-service spa and multiple golf courses (27 holes) at the Westin Kierland Golf Club. When you’re ready to cool off, head to the pools or water park. There is a family-friendly pool, an adult-only pool, a hot tub, as well as a lazy river, a water slide, and even a FlowRider surfing simulator. 2. JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort and Spa – Phoenix, AZ

The JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort and Spa in northern Phoenix is a great family-friendly destination for families of all sizes and ages. Beat the heat at Aqua Ridge Water Park enjoying the multiple pools, water slides, splash pad, hot tub or (our favorite) the lazy river. Hit the green at one of the two 18-hole golf courses or spend the day playing pickleball and then relaxing at Revive Spa. Families, in particular, will love the lawn games, Family Zone, and arcade room. This resort offers a schedule of family actvitites, walking trails, and even bicycle rentals. There are 6 dining and drink options serving a variety of cuisines with someone for everyone! I enjoyed the turkey wrap poolside during our last visit before a trip (or 10) around the lazy river 🙂

3. Arizona Grand Resort and Spa – Phoenix, AZ 

The Arizona Grand Resort is an all-suites resort located in southeastern Phoenix with beautiful mountain views, a scenic 18-hole, par 71 golf course, a full-service spa, and a massive athletic club with fitness equipment and classes. The main attraction for us at the Arizona Grand Resort was “The Oasis” water park. It includes a lazy river, 3 water slides (two of which start from 8 stories high), a wave pool, a 25-person hot tub (yes, you read that correctly), a splash area for kids, and a resort pool with a water volleyball net set up. There are multiple great family-friendly restaurants, including Aunt Chilada’s on the property with (allegedly) the best margarita in town! The cheese enchiladas were delicious also, order them “Christmas style” with both red and green sauces. If you’re looking for a relaxing resort with great food, amenities, and space to spread out – you’ll love The Arizona Grand!

A family-friendly pool complete with 2 water slides, a white sand beach pool surrounded by palm trees, an adult-only pool, a spa rooftop pool, the main resort pool, and a private pool for guests staying in the Privado ultra-luxurious accommodations. The Hilton Phoenix Resort at the Peak is located in northern Phoenix. It is a great family-friendly resort complete with an outdoor pool, baby pool, water slide, and lazy river. This resort has a full-service spa and resort restaurant, as well as a poolside bar and grill. As a former Texan, I can attest that the brisket at Hole-In-The-Wall BBQ Joint is legit. There is not a golf course on the property but there is mini golf next to the lazy river… and there’s no shortage of award-winning golf courses in Phoenix!

6. Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Gainey Ranch – Scottsdale, AZ

The Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Gainey Ranch is located on the Gainey Ranch Golf Club (27-hole course) in Scottsdale, Arizona. It has casitas, suites, and standard hotel rooms available for guests with options for private balconies and mountain views. The resort is in the process of undergoing exciting renovations to become a Grand Hyatt property. The pool complex and guest rooms are already complete and the lobby, dining, and spa renovations are planned to wrap up by October 2024. The new pool complex includes multiple resort pools, a sandy beach pool, an adults-only pool, and a water slide. There will be SIX restaurants on the property when the renovations are complete, led by celebrity chef Richard Blais of Top Chef fame. Both poolside restaurants are already open, one is family-friendly and one is adults-only – choose your own adventure! The Hilton Sedona Resort at Bell Rock is set in the beautiful red rocks of Sedona. It is a large resort with both standard rooms and suites available for guests, each with a fireplace and private balcony or patio. There is a Southwestern restaurant with a serene patio, a poolside cafe, and a bar on the property. The Hilton Sedona Resort at Bell Rock has two outdoor pools, a family-friendly outdoor pool complete with fountains, waterfalls, and a tunnel as well as an adult lap pool. There is a state-of-the-art athletic club, tennis, and a full-service spa on the property. Although there is not a golf course officially on the premises, you wouldn’t know it because the Sedona Golf Course is across the street.

9. The Phoenician, a Luxury Collection Resort, Scottsdale – Scottsdale, AZ 

The Phoenician Resort located in Scottsdale, Arizona offers guests a luxury resort experience with world class golf, a full service spa, a massive athletic center with fitness classes, a game room, and sports courts. There is a three tiered oasis with multiple pools for guests including an adult-only pool as well as a family-friendly pool area, a water slide, and a splash fort. There are 8 dining and drink options on the property ranging from upscale to casual. I enjoyed a flatbread pizza at Mowry + Cotton and enjoyed a falconry show and views of the pool deck from the vibey patio.

The Arizona Biltmore is a cool art deco-inspired resort synonymous with luxury family resort in Phoenix. Choose your level of accommodation including a standard hotel room, a suite, a cottage, or a villa. There are 2 golf courses, a spa, and tennis courts on the property for guests to enjoy. The Arizona Biltmore has 7 (yes, seven) pools including an adult-only pool and a family-friendly pool with three water slides. Wet your whistle at one of 5 onsite dining options ranging from upscale to casual with two vibey cocktail bars, one of which claims to be the birthplace of the Tequila sunrise! Family-friendly event programming includes activities like family yoga, dive-in movies, and family fitness walks. There is also Kids Night Out programming for kids aged 4-12 years old from 6-10 pm… tequila sunrise, anyone??

The JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort and Spa is a nice family-friendly resort nestled into the hillside with great views of Camelback located in Scottsdale. Accommodation options include a casita or suites, some with a private fire pit or even a pool. There are 5 dining and drink options on the beautiful resort grounds, ranging from an upscale steakhouse with a view to a lobby coffeeshop with great grab-and-go items. This resort has a full-service spa and a complimentary shuttle to the Camelback Golf Course (18 holes). There is a heated family-friendly pool with a nice water feature, as well as adult-only pool, and a hot tub available to guests.

The Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass is located on the Gila River Indian Reservation in southern Phoenix. This resort provides guests with opportunities for learning about Native American culture and heritage along with modern resort amenities. This resort sits on a peninsula surrounded by a small lake that was created to look like the Gila River that guests can explore by kayak or paddleboat. The pool and hot tub are heated in the winter and centrally located with a water slide for kids and adults alike to enjoy. There are 6 options for dining and drinks on the property including the award-winning Kai restaurant serving Native American cuisine. Unique activities at this resort your family is sure to enjoy are the Land of Mustangs daily equestrian ranch encounter teaching guests about wild mustangs, the Adventure Club with kid-friendly movies and activities with an emphasis on Native American Heritage, and the Quail Kids Day Camp available to guests age 6-12 years old. The Wigwam is a historic resort in West Phoenix that first opened its doors as a resort in 1929. Don’t let that fool you this is a modern-day Arizona resort with upscale dining, 3 golf courses, a spa, and tennis and pickleball courts. Accommodations at The Wigwam include luxury suites and casitas with a tasteful, modern southwestern aesthetic. There is a family-friendly pool and hot tub complete with 2 waterslides and also an adults-only pool and hot tub (parents on the loose!) if you’re looking for something a little more romantic.

Our favorite part of the resort though is the pools. There are 7 pools, a water slide, cascading waterfalls, splash fountains, and cabanas available to rent. The Hilton Phoenix Tapatio Cliffs Resort offers family-friendly programming such as poolside yoga, family games, and dive-in movies in the evening. There is also a “Kids Korral” kids day program over the summer and spring break, so parents can get in a hike or massage while their kids are enjoying themselves too.

Squire Resort at the Grand Canyon is a family-friendly resort just 7 miles from the South Rim Entrance to Grand Canyon National Park. There is actually a complimentary shuttle that will pick you up from the hotel lobby to transport you to the Grand Canyon. The resort has multiple on site dining options, an indoor and outdoor pool, hot tub, and splash pad. If swimming isn’t your thing, you’re sure to creatte some family memories in the bowling alley and arcade room. There is also live music to enjoy and, of course, don’t forget to look up at those stars! The High Country Motor Lodge is the perfect blend of retro and modern with a nod to its roots located on the history Route 66 in Flagstaff, Arizona. 9. Under Canvas at Grand Canyon – Grand Canyon, Arizona

Under Canvas is a unique glamping (glamorous + camping) resort for families looking to unplug for a bit and really soak in the nature around Grand Canyon National Park. This resort is located about 25 miles from the South Rim entrance to Grand Canyon National Park. It has on-site dining options for hot breakfast and dinner and grab-and-go options for lunch while out exploring. It is open seasonally from mid-April through October. Accommodations are in fancy tents with private patios and wood burning fireplaces. There is. a battery-powered chargers to charge 2 phones, a lantern and a small fan – otherwise, you’re off the grid! Camp activities include morning yoga, guided tours, and complimentary nightly s’mores around the campfire. One of the best things about this area is the stars. There’s even a stargazer tent available with a window above the bed to view the incredible night sky all night long!
